For Controller Joseph Martino, the most interesting aspect of working at Loureiro is his ability to see beyond the finance and accounting world.   “We’re an engineering firm, a construction firm, a Laboratory and so much more,” says Joe. “I’ve received a wealth of experience in accounting and finance while also learning a lot about construction, engineering, and the way a business operates. At Loureiro, each day brings something new, and you get to work with people from all over the company.” Joe started at Loureiro in July 2021 as a Staff Accountant and finished his MBA that summer. Over the next two and a half years, Joe worked his way up to Director of Accounting, and now, Controller. His growth and experience at Loureiro have allowed him to see what makes Loureiro unique. “From an operational perspective, what distinguishes us is our unique combination of disciplines all under one roof. Environmental Engineer Aysa Dunne works out of Loureiro’s New Hampshire office, splitting her time between field work and office work. She works primarily with the Environmental Engineering and Environmental Assessment teams completing a multitude of tasks, including Phase 1 Investigations – essentially history reports on a site that’s being bought or sold. “I spend a good chunk of time in the Treatability Lab in our office working closely with Laurel Crawford, my supervisor,” says Aysa. “Whenever we have lab work I am in there helping her out and that atmosphere is something I really love. At Loureiro, I’m never stuck doing one thing. I’m not just doing field work or data validation. I’m doing a little bit of everything, and that makes every day pretty exciting.” At Loureiro, Aysa has found a supportive environment invested in her growth. She notes that the team members in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire office all worked together prior to Loureiro’s acquisition of XDD Environmental, and that the atmosphere she walked into was family-like. “Everyone in the Environmental Engineering group in our Portsmouth, New Hampshire office used to be XDD,” says Aysa. “I’m the only Loureiro-hired person in this group. Coming into the office was a little intimidating because there were no entry level people. But I wound up with 8 incredible mentors who will drop almost anything to help me learn something. Senior Project Manager Laurel Crawford operates a silent powerhouse behind the scenes at Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. Leading the charge in managing Loureiro's treatability laboratory situated in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Laurel plays an integral role in company operations. Laurel was managing this lab while it operated as XDD Environmental, a consulting firm focusing on the evaluation, design, and implementation of diverse environmental remediation technologies for soil and groundwater. Acquired by Loureiro in 2022, these qualitative services are provided by the same team of experienced engineers and scientists - giving Loureiro a remarkable edge in the industry. “I’m really proud of the way the lab has grown over the years,” says Laurel. “I didn’t establish it, but I’ve been able to expand it into other technologies and areas of specialization since I took over managing it in 2013.” Over the years, the treatability lab acquired equipment and procedures from a former Boston-area lab focused on the biological aspects of remediation. Women's History Month is a time to celebrate all of the invaluable contributions women have made throughout history, illuminating their roles in shaping societies across various fields.
