To teach adults to read, write, speak and understand English so that they may achieve personal, educational, employment and civic goals. LITERACY VOLUNTEERS ORIENTATIONS – WINTER 2019 Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury will be hosting orientation sessions for adults interested in learning about volunteer opportunities teaching local adults to read, write, speak, and understand English. Individuals who are at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent are invited to attend one of the following sessions to learn more: • Saturday, January 5, 10:00-11:00 a.m., Silas Bronson Library, Auditorium, 267 Grand Street, Waterbury • Tuesday, January 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Middlebury Public Library, 30 Crest Road, Middlebury • Wednesday, January 9, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Oakville Branch Library, 55 Davis Street, Oakville • Thursday, January 10, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Woodbury Public Library, 269 Main Street South, Waterbury • Saturday, January 12, 10:00-11:00 a.m., Ion Foundation Community Room, 270 Church Street, Naugatuck Other qualifications necessary to be a Literacy Volunteer are strong oral and written English skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and an email address. LVGW serves the communities of Beacon Falls, Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oakville, Watertown, Oxford, Plymouth, Terryville, Prospect, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Wolcott, and Woodbury.
